Abstract.
Using column and thin-layer chromatography, carotenoid content was examined in the skin and muscles of spiny dogfish (Squalus acanthias) individuals. Twelve carotenoids were found, with a predominance of canthaxanthin and astaxanthin. The total carotenoid content in the fillets examined ranged from 0.42 (muscles) to 5.72 mg  g-1 wet mass (skin)
