Abstract.
The research related to the influence of the seasons and depth of making a catch, as well as the size of feeding fish, upon the amount and composition of their food. The second basic objective was to determine the availability of particular food components by comparing the food composition of herring and sprat with the set of species constituting the so-called food complex of the fish examined (species potentially being food components). Food investigations were aimed at a possibly precise determination of the utilization rate of forage reserves of herring and sprat in the southern Baltic.
