Abstract.
In the years 1983, 1984 and 1986 material was collected in order to investigate the fecundity of blue whiting which occur in waters surrounding the Falkland Islands. It was determined that the absolute fecundity of blue whiting females ranged from 31.2 to 1,064.1 thousand eggs and increased along with their length and mass. A better correlation was found between the number of eggs in gonads and fish mass than fish length. The dependence of fish fecundity on age appeared only for younger fish (less than 10 years old).
