Abstract.
This paper addresses the problem of the impact of perch-roach gillnets on pikeperch
resources in the Polish part of the Vistula Lagoon. The highest pikeperch by-catch
was observed in May and June during the period when this species is protected.
In subsequent months the catch efficiency of the perch-roach gillnets for pikeperch
decreased. The flattened curve of the length distribution of the pikeperch caught
in perch-roach gillnets indicates that the selectivity of this gear is low with
regard to this species.
