Abstract.
This work presents the results of research on the fecundity of perch
( Perca fluviatilis ) fished
in the Międzyodrze waters of Poland. Females constituted 73.5% of the
mature fish in the population investigated. In 1995 perch spawning in the
Międzyodrze waters took place in the second half of April. The absolute
fecundity was estimated to be between 6.9 and 99.6 thousand eggs. The dependence
between absolute fecundity and fish length is non-linear. Fecundity does
not increase proportionally with female length; its increase is more rapid.
There is a linear relationship between absolute fecundity and female mass.
The lowest fecundity was observed in specimens 29 and 33 cm long, while
the greatest fecundity was observed in specimens 15 cm long. The estimated,
expected absolute fecundity of females 15 cm long was 7.1 thousand eggs,
while for females 20 cm long it was16.1 thousand eggs.
