Dr. Maciej Tomasz Tomczak received his docent degree (habilitacja) in Earth Sciences, in the field of oceanology

Dr. Maciej Tomasz Tomczak received his docent degree (habilitacja) in Earth Sciences, in the field of oceanology, awarded by the University of Gdańsk. His scientific achievement titled “Integrated assessments of the state and structure of the Baltic Sea ecosystem”.

He graduated from the University of Gdańsk and began his scientific career at the National Marine Fisheries Research Institute (MIR-PIB). He subsequently worked in leading international research centres, including DTU-Aqua (Denmark), the Stockholm Resilience Centre, the Baltic Sea Centre at Stockholm University, and SLU Aqua (Sweden). His work focuses on ecological network analysis, ecosystem modelling, long-term environmental change and development of tools supporting ecosystem-based management.

Dr habil. Tomczak has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in top scientific journals such as Ecological Modelling, Limnology and Oceanography, PLoS ONE and Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science. His research contributes directly to scientific advice delivered by ICES, to Baltic Sea environmental assessments under HELCOM HOLAS, and to EU marine policies. He remains an active member of several ICES expert groups and collaborates broadly in international research networks on marine ecosystem dynamics.
