DIRECTOR OF THE NATIONAL FISHERIES RESEARCH INSTITUTE
ANNOUNCES AN OPEN COMPETITION
FOR THE POSITION OF NMFRI PROFESSOR – COORDINATOR OF INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC COOPERATION – ¼ time
Requirements/criteria for candidates:
- Habilitated doctorate (in Polish: dr hab.) in natural sciences, environmental sciences
environmental sciences, fisheries or related fields; - Documented experience in scientific work at foreign research institutions of recognised international renown, lasting a total of at least 3 years
- Active and long-term (minimum 4 years) experience in cooperation with ICES and HELCOM (participation in working groups, expert groups, committees or advisory bodies), very good knowledge of the Baltic Sea, especially in the context of fisheries management;
- Recognition in the international scientific community, confirmed by scientific achievements, expert invitations, participation in panels, advisory groups or scientific networks;
- Very good knowledge of the functioning of international scientific and advisory structures, including the principles of institutional cooperation, decision-making procedures and mechanisms of scientific influence on public policy;
- Extensive, active network of scientific contacts in Poland and abroad, confirmed by participation in international scientific projects;
- Proven ability to initiate, develop and coordinate international scientific cooperation at the institutional level, including building long-term strategic partnerships;
- Very good command of spoken and written English, enabling fluent scientific communication, negotiations and representation of the Institute on the international stage;
- Ability to work at a strategic and institutional level, including the ability to identify research priorities and translate them into long-term activities within the organisation;
- High degree of independence, communication skills and ability to represent the Institute internationally; experience in representative or coordinating functions in scientific institutions will be an additional advantage. Scientific achievements in the field of marine ecosystem functioning, with particular emphasis on publications integrating ecological and management knowledge, measured by the number of scientific publications, their quality (500 points according to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, including at least 200 points as the first author or corresponding author; the number of points obtained from chapters in a monograph should not exceed 20% of the total points for the entire monograph) and the number of citations, with particular emphasis on those publications in which the candidate is the first, second or corresponding author; within the last 5 years.
- Good command of the Polish language.

Career development prospects or a brief description of the scientific research in which the candidate would participate.
The duties of the person employed in the advertised position will include scientific work in the field of marine ecology, the functioning of marine ecosystems, fisheries and ecosystem-based resource management, as well as:
- creative scientific activity consisting in solving research and development problems;
- initiating, developing and maintaining long-term scientific cooperation between the Institute and domestic and foreign research units, universities and scientific organisations;
- actively building and utilising international scientific networks (networking), including identifying strategic partners for NMFRI;
- supporting the Institute’s research staff in establishing research contacts and strategic partnerships;
- coordinating scientific cooperation at the institutional level (framework agreements, memoranda of understanding, letters of intent);
- monitoring key research trends in the field of fisheries, marine ecology and environmental sciences;
- representing the Institute in national and international bodies, networks and scientific initiatives (in particular ICES, HELCOM and other advisory bodies);
- cooperating with the Institute’s Management Board in developing and implementing strategies for scientific cooperation.

- information on participation in research projects, including their source of funding and role in the project, with a list of projects related to the functioning of the Baltic Sea ecosystem and ecosystem-based resource management
- list of scientific publications, together with scores according to the current List of Journals of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, with the number of citations and the calculated Hirsch index. The list must be prepared on the basis of the SCOPUS database;
- information on papers presented at scientific conferences;
- information on scientific internships completed;
- information on awards and distinctions received;
- a declaration of readiness to conduct research in the field of agricultural sciences: zootechnics and fisheries;
- a copy of the diploma(s) confirming education;
- copies of documents confirming other requirements and qualifications.

Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the Labour Code. Remuneration according to the NMFRI Remuneration Regulations.
