ICES 107th Statutory Meeting at ICES Headquarters.
Over two days, delegates from ICES member countries discussed strategic and important issues such as developments within aquaculture, ICES engagement in the Arctic, and ICES participation in the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science and the United Nations Intergovernmental Conference on Marine Biodiversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction.
The Council heard updates on ICES Science Plan, the upcoming Advice Plan (launched in 2020), and agreed to explore strategies to reduce the CO2 footprint of the organization.
Upcoming host countries for the flagship event, i.e. ICES Annual Science Conference, were discussed: in 2020 the ASC will be hosted in Denmark and in 2021 by the UK.

Bureau is the Executive Committee of the Council, comprising one president and 5 vice-presidents. Piotr Margonski, Poland, concludes his term as Vice-President at the end of 2019 and Pierre Petitgas, France was elected as his successor. Margonski remarked to those gathered, “As I am just finishing my 3-year term in ICES Bureau, I would like to say that it was an exciting period of my ICES activities. Working for Bureau gave me a unique opportunity to have much deeper insight into the way our organization is working. I learned a lot and, in the same time, I hope that my contribution was useful for ICES.”
The Council is the principal decision and policy-making body of ICES. Fritz W. Köster, Denmark, is the current President.
