DIRECTOR OF THE NATIONAL MARINE FISHERIES RESEARCH INSTITUTE

ANNOUNCES AN OPEN COMPETITION

FOR THE POSITION OF THE  SENIOR SCIENTIST

AT THE DEPARTMENT OF FISHERIES RESOURCES

Work location: Gdynia

The competition is open to persons who meet the conditions set out in Article 43 of the Act on Research Institutes and the Code of Conduct for the recruitment of researchers at the National Marine Fisheries Research Institute. 

Requirements/criteria for applicants:

  1. Doctoral degree in science or natural sciences
  2. Experience in work related to scientific research activities in:
    1. ichthyology
    2. fish parasitology and molecular studies of fish parasites
    3. analysis of food composition of Baltic Sea fish, especially cod, whiting and flounder – experience min. 8 years
    4. participation in scientific and research projects (NCN – National Science Centre, NCBiR – National Centre for Research and Development, EU)
    5. planning and managing research work in the above-mentioned fields
    6. developing and archiving results
    7. developing computational procedures in the R platform – proof of participation in specialised courses and training (national or international) is required
  3. Experience in the work of international expert groups (e.g. RCG NANSEA AND RCG BALTIC) or similar bodies would be an additional asset
  4. Scientific achievements in the fields of ichthyology, fish parasitology and parasite genetics, and fish diet, measured by the number of scientific publications, their quality (Ministry of Education and Science points) and the number of citations, with particular emphasis on those publications where the candidate is the first author;
  5. Scientific activity measured by the number of presentations, especially in the field of fish parasitology (papers and posters presented) at national and international scientific conferences and participation in the work of international expert groups;
  6. Ability to conduct ichthyological, parasitological and molecular research – proof of participation in specialised courses and training (national and international) is required;
  7. Willingness to declare research in the field of agricultural sciences: zootechnics and fisheries;
  8. Experience in conducting research vessel surveys measured by the number of voyages and cruise days, health conditions to carry out such work and obtaining a Maritime Health Certificate;
  9. Possession of a Maritime Health Certificate, STCW training, seaman’s book and junior seaman’s or junior fisherman’s certificates will be an additional asset;
  10. Experience related to the popularisation of science through participation in the organisation of scientific conferences, membership of an organising committee;
  11. Good knowledge of English, knowledge of Polish would be an additional asset.

 

Career prospects or a brief description of the scientific research in which the candidate would be involved.

The duties of the person in the advertised position will include scientific work on the health status of marine fishes, with a particular focus on the presence of parasites in fish food and the identification of sources of fish infection, taking into account invertebrates, which are intermediate hosts in the life cycles of parasites. In addition, tasks would include analysis of the composition of fish food.

The requirements will be:

  1. creative scientific activity, involving the solution of scientific problems and development;
  2. participation in field work;
  3. undertaking efforts to acquire research projects;
  4. leadership of acquired and commissioned research projects;
  5. disseminating scientific achievements through publications and active participation in scientific life;
  6. participation in international expert groups.

  1. Curriculum vitae including information on academic and organisational achievements:
    1. information on educational background and previous employment,
    2. information on participation in research projects, indicating their source of funding and role in the project, with particular emphasis on projects in the field of fish parasitology and fish diet,
    3. a list of scientific publications, with scoring according to the current List of Periodicals of the Ministry of Education and Science, with the number of citations and the calculated Hirsch index. The list must be prepared on the basis of the SCOPUS database
    4. information on participation in scientific conferences, detailing papers and posters;
    5. information on scientific traineeships;
    6. declaration of willingness to conduct research in the field of agricultural sciences: zootechnics and fisheries
  2. Copy of diploma(s) attesting to education;
  3. Copies of documents confirming other required qualifications;
  4. Opinion of an independent researcher;
  5. A declaration that upon employment the Institute will be the primary place of work and a declaration of readiness to conduct research in the field of agricultural sciences: zootechnics and fisheries.

Employment will take place in accordance with the provisions of the Labour Code. Remuneration according to the rates of the MIR-PIB Remuneration Regulations.
