Competition for the position of:
ASSISTANT
AT THE DEPARTMENT OF FISHERIES OCEANOGRAPHY AND MARINE ECOLOGY
Requirements/criteria for candidates
- Completed higher education in biology, biological oceanography, or fisheries, at least a master’s degree
- Experience in scientific and research work in the field of:
- research on ichthyoplankton and zooplankton,
- the use of advanced statistical techniques,
- planning and conducting field and laboratory research,
- experience in work related to the analysis of fish otolith microstructure will be an additional advantage.
- Scientific achievements in the field of research on the early developmental stages of fish, measured by the number of scientific publications, their quality (at least 50 points from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education; the number of points obtained from chapters in a monograph should not exceed 20% of the total points for the entire monograph) and the number of citations, with particular emphasis on those publications in which the candidate is the first, second, or corresponding author;
- Scientific activity in the field of plankton research, with particular emphasis on personally delivered presentations;
- Creativity measured by the number of research projects led (at least 1 research project) and research project applications submitted (e.g., National Science Center, National Centre for Research and Development, European grants), including those carried out in cooperation with foreign partners;
- Experience in working on research vessels and small vessels (e.g. fishing boats), health conditions enabling such work and obtaining a Maritime Health Certificate;
- Possession of a Maritime Health Certificate, STCW training, a seaman’s book, and junior seaman qualifications will be additional advantages;
- Good knowledge of English, knowledge of Polish will be an additional advantage.
Career development prospects or a brief description of the scientific research in which the candidate would participate.
The duties of the person employed in the advertised position will include scientific work
in the field of zooplankton and ichthyoplankton research and the impact of environmental and anthropogenic factors on their variability in the marine environment.
The following will be required:
- creative scientific activity, consisting of solving scientific and development problems;
- laboratory work;
- participation in field work, including participation in research cruises on board small vessels and large research ships (multi-day cruises);
- making efforts to obtain research projects;
- management of acquired and commissioned research projects;
- disseminating scientific achievements through publications and active participation in scientific life.

- information on education and previous employment,
- information on participation in research projects, including their source of funding and role in the project, with a list of projects in the field of zooplankton and ichthyoplankton research and research on the impact of environmental and anthropogenic factors on marine plankton;
- list of scientific publications, with scores according to the current List of Journals of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, with the number of citations and the calculated Hirsch index. The list must be prepared based on the SCOPUS database;
- information on participation in scientific conferences, specifying papers and posters;
- information on voyages on research vessels (including the name and flag of the vessel) and small vessels (e.g. fishing boats), including the area of operation and the estimated number of days at sea;
- information on scientific internships completed;
- information on awards and distinctions received;
- a declaration of readiness to conduct research in the field of agricultural sciences: animal husbandry and fisheries;
- Copy of diploma(s) confirming education;
- Copies of documents confirming other required qualifications;
- Opinion of an independent researcher;
- Statement that upon employment, the Institute will be the primary place of work and declaration of readiness to conduct research in the field of agricultural sciences: animal husbandry and fisheries.

The competition will be decided by December 17, 2025.
Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the Labor Code. Remuneration will be based on the NMFRI Remuneration Regulations.
