From 14 to 16 October 2026, the 51st Training Conference for Salmonid Fish Farmers, organised by the Polish Trout Breeders Association, took place in Gdynia. Known within the industry as “Pstrągówka” (“Trout Days”), the event brought together representatives of fish farms, public administration, research institutions and companies working with the aquaculture sector. The conference was officially opened by Jacek Czerniak, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Researchers from the National Marine Fisheries Research Institute (NMFRI) played an important role in this year’s conference programme. On the first day, 14 October, representatives of the NMFRI Department of Fisheries Economics conducted a workshop on the practical aspects of completing the electronic RRW-22 questionnaire, used to collect statistical data on aquaculture. The workshop was led by Marta Pakowska-Szarota and Norbert Nieżorawski, with Tomasz Kulikowski serving as moderator.
During the first thematic session of the conference on 15 October, dedicated to markets, production and consumers, Norbert Nieżorawski and Marta Pakowska-Szarota delivered a presentation entitled “An Overview of Polish Aquaculture in 2025 Based on Statistical Surveys Using the RRW-22 Questionnaire”. The presentation provided participants with an up-to-date overview of domestic aquaculture production, based on data collected directly from fish producers.
Another NMFRI contribution was a presentation by Tomasz Kulikowski entitled “How to Prevent Trout from Sharing the Fate of Blackcurrants: Current Situation and Prospects for the Consumer Market”. The presentation addressed the position of trout on the Polish market, changes in consumer behaviour and preferences, and the challenges associated with further developing demand for fish produced by domestic aquaculture.
NMFRI’s participation in the conference highlighted the Institute’s important role in providing the aquaculture sector with statistical data, economic analyses and insights into the consumer market.
