NMFRI Representatives at the 16th International Congress of Parasitology – ICOPA 2026

Held every four years, the International Congress of Parasitology (ICOPA) is the largest event in the field of parasitology, organised by the World Federation of Parasitologists (WFP). This year marked the 16th edition of the Congress, which brought together more than 1,400 participants representing 92 countries from 6 continents. Poland was represented by researchers from the National Veterinary Research Institute (PIWet-PIB), the Medical University of Gdańsk, the Medical University of Warsaw, the University of the National Education Commission in Kraków, the University of Wrocław, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, the Polish Academy of Sciences, and NMFRI. The local organizers of the Congress were representatives of McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

During the event, Dr. Katarzyna Nadolna-Ałtyn and Dr. Joanna Pawlak from the Department of Fisheries Resources at NMFRI presented research on Atlantic salmon from the Baltic Sea:

  1. Katarzyna Nadolna-Ałtyn, Joanna Pawlak, Magdalena Podolska, Adam M. Lejk, Parasites of the salmon (Salmo salar) from the southern Baltic Sea;
  2. Joanna Pawlak, Katarzyna Nadolna-Ałtyn, Magdalena Podolska, Adam M. Lejk, Diet composition of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) and its role in the transmission of Anisakidae nematodes in the Baltic Sea.

The results presented are based on research conducted at NMFRI as part of a special-purpose subsidy from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The participation of NMFRI representatives in ICOPA 2026 provided an opportunity to present the results of research conducted at the Institute, exchange knowledge and experience with the international scientific community, and discuss directions for the development of research in Europe and worldwide.
