COMPETITION FOR A SCIENTIFIC POST
DIRECTOR OF THE NATIONAL MARINE FISHERIES RESEARCH INSTITUTE
HEREBY ANNOUNCES AN OPEN COMPETITION FOR THE POST OF THE
SENIOR SCIENTIST
IN THE DEPARTMENT OF FISHERIES OCEANOGRAPHY AND MARINE ECOLOGY
The competition is open to persons who meet the conditions set out in Article 43 of the Research Institutes Act.
I. Requirements/criteria for the candidate:
1. Doctoral degree in science and natural sciences.
2. Experience in work related to scientific research activities in:
a) surveys of the Baltic benthos and pelagic larvae of benthic organisms (meroplankton), experience from other areas would be an advantage;
b) knowledge of the taxonomy of Baltic benthic organisms and their pelagic larval stages;
c) experiments in trophic network studies using stable isotopes;
d) mathematical modelling of processes in marine trophic networks;
e) planning and directing research work in the aforementioned area;
f) raising funds to conduct research.
3. Experience in international working groups (e.g. ICES, HELCOM) or similar bodies would be an asset.
4. Scientific output in the field of benthic, meroplankton and marine trophic networks research as measured by the number of scientific publications, their quality (Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education points) and the number of citations, with particular emphasis on those publications in which the candidate is the first, second or correspondent author;
5. Scientific activity in the field of benthic, meroplankton and marine trophic networks research as measured by the number of presentations at scientific conferences, national and international, with particular emphasis on personally delivered papers at international conferences, and participation in international working groups.
6. Willingness to declare research in the field of agricultural sciences: zootechnics and fisheries.
7. Good knowledge of the English language.
II. Professional development prospects or a brief description of the research in which the candidate would be involved.
The responsibilities of the advertised post holder will include scientific work in benthic, meroplankton and marine trophic networks research. Requirements will be:
1. creative scientific activity to solve scientific and development problems;
2. participation in field work, in particular participation in research cruises aboard small craft and large scientific research vessels
3. making efforts to acquire research projects;
4. management of acquired and commissioned research projects;
5. disseminating scientific achievements through publications and active participation in scientific life;
6. participation in international expert groups;
III. List of documents required:
1. Curriculum vitae with information on academic and organisational achievements:
a. information on education and previous employment;
b. information on participation in research projects, indicating their source of funding and role in the project
c. a list of scientific publications, with scoring according to the valid List of journals of the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education, with the number of citations and the calculated Hirsch index. The list must be prepared on the basis of the SCOPUS database
d. information on participation in scientific conferences, detailing papers and posters;
e. list of externally funded research projects, indicating the role in the project (participant, project leader, package/IP) and the role in the application;
f. information on voyages carried out on scientific research vessels (name and flag of the vessel) with indication of the body of water and the estimated number of days at sea;
g. information on research placements completed;
h. declaration of readiness to conduct research in the field of agricultural sciences: zootechnics and fisheries.
2. Copy of diploma(s) confirming education.
3. Copies of documents evidencing the other qualifications required
4. Opinion of an independent researcher.
5. A statement that upon employment the Institute will be the primary place of work.

2. The deadline for submission of documents is 31.01.2025.
V. The competition will be decided by 28.02.2025.
VI. Employment will take place in accordance with the provisions of the Labour Code. Remuneration according to the rates of the NMFRI Remuneration Regulations.

4. The recipients of your personal data will be NMFRI staff and in particular members of the selection board.
5. Your personal data will not be transferred to third countries or international organisations.
6. Your personal data will be stored for up to 6 months after the end of the recruitment.
7. You have the right of access to the content of your data and the right to rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, the right to data portability, the right to object, the right to withdraw consent to processing at any time.
8. You have the right to lodge a complaint with the President of the Data Protection Authority if you consider that the processing of your data violates the provisions of the GDPR.
9. Your provision of personal data is a condition of employment and the conclusion of a contract and you are therefore obliged to provide it. The consequence of failing to provide personal data will be that a contract cannot be concluded. The provision of data not required by law is voluntary.
