Aquaculture conference in Brussels

Aquaculture conference in Brussels

On October 14, 2024 in Brussels, an aquaculture conference was held, organized by the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Poland was represented at the conference by Tomasz Kulikowski from the NMFRI Department of Fisheries Economics, who gave a presentation on the multifunctionality of aquaculture in the context of sustainable development goals. The main conclusion of the lecture was that a one-dimensional assessment of aquaculture (no matter whether through the prism of its production function or, for example, carbon footprint) is incomplete and may lead to unfair conclusions and wrong strategic decisions. Hence it is necessary to create a transparent system of multiparametric assessment of aquaculture, taking into account economic, social and environmental aspects.
