Carp meeting 2024

Carp meeting 2024

The XXIX National Conference of Carp Producers and Training of Fish Producers was held on September 24-26 in Sulislaw Palace (Opolskie Voivodeship), in which, as every year, NMFRI representatives actively participated. The motto of the conference was “Without water there is no carp, but without carp farming there will be no water either.

The 3-day meeting was attended, among others, by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the National Veterinary Research Institute, the Polish Academy of Sciences, the National Inland Fisheries Research Institute, the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, and a large representation of carp breeders and producers.

The session was opened by Jerzy Czyżak, president of the Polish Fisheries Society. During the conference, representatives of the scientific world presented the resources and condition of water in Poland, as well as the retention role of carp-type ponds.

The training of fish producers was held in separate thematic sessions on the environmental conditions of carp management, fishery support, production, market and sales of aquaculture products, fish prevention and health, as well as processing and innovation. Within the session on processing and innovation, moderated by Tomasz Kulikowski, Dr.Eng. Boguslaw Pawlikowski gave a presentation on an innovative method of packaging aquaculture products in a modified atmosphere. After the speeches in the various sessions, discussions were held on the issues presented.

The training workshops organized on the second day of the session, conducted by specialists in the art of negotiation in business and the art of fish nutrition, as well as a fishers’ “hyde park”, and a presentation of companies accredited with the training, were of great interest. Events accompanying the conference were the deliberations of the Chapter of the “Fisher of the Year” and a cooking and photography contest.

On the second day of the session on production, market and sales, Tomasz Kulikowski, M.Sc. gave his presentation. It concerned the analysis, based on the results of quantitative and qualitative surveys conducted in 2023, of the reasons why some households are moving away from carp purchases, and an attempt to find motivators for repeat purchases.
