The Professor Kazimierz Demel Medal is an honour and expression of special appreciation for extraordinary scientific and organisation achievements in research and promotion of biological, environmental and fisheries knowledge of the sea. It is awarded to Polish and foreign people as well as institutions and associations, based on applications, which can be submitted to the Committee at any time.
The Medal Committee is composed of the past winners of the medal (people only) as well as the Chairman of the Scientific Council and the Director of the National Marine Fisheries Research Institute.
Following the decision of the Medal Committee, this year’s Laureate of this award – for achieving excellence in the field of fisheries and marine biology – was Prof. Friedrich Wilhelm Köster. The award ceremony took place on 25 November in Gdynia and was combined with the Laureate’s lecture “Fish stock dynamics in the Baltic Sea. Do we utilize our scientific potential to inform fish stock assessments on acting biological and ecological processes?”.
