International Green Week – Grüne Woche 2023

Grüne Woche 2023 trade fair took place in Berlin from 20-29.01.2023. This trade fair has been held for more than 90 years and is the leading international trade fair for food, agriculture and horticulture. This year, exhibitors from more than 60 countries from all over the world presented their offers during ten event days on an area of 113,000 m2.

The fair was accompanied by more than 300 symposia, seminars and discussion forums, and one such event was a scientific conference on ‘Low-carbon and resource-efficient fish production’, organised by the Toruń-based Sturgeon Fish Producers’ Organisation together with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Among the speakers was Dr.Eng. Joanna Szlinder-Richert with a presentation entitled: “Are chemical pollutants a threat to aquatic ecosystems and fisheries in Poland? Assessment methods and current status.”

NMFRI was also represented by M.Eng. Małgorzata Malesa-Ciećwierz from the Department of Food and Environmental Chemistry.

The conference also included workshop sessions covering ecosystem-based approaches to fish management and conservation: implementation strategies using salmonids and sturgeon as examples; determinants of circular economy development in aquaculture; and economics of fisheries and aquaculture farms. The session entitled. “Determinants of circular economy development in aquaculture” was chaired by Dr. Marcin Rakowski from the Department of Fisheries Economics.
