We are pleased to announce the launch at NMFRI of the IMPRESS project funded by Horizon Europe.
IMPRESS is a project initiated by the processing industry, but based on sound science and centered around the EU’s Bioeconomy and Blue Growth Strategy. It aims to promote sustainable and waste-free production and consumption. The four-year project is co-funded by Horizon Europe and implemented by a multidisciplinary consortium of 14 academic and research institutes, business associations, non-profit organizations and SMEs from 7 countries. The partners will work together on the difficult sustainability challenges facing the marine fisheries and aquaculture sectors.
Coordinated by Teagasc, the Irish Agricultural and Food Development Authority and renowned European research institutes with expertise in sustainable food production and innovative processing techniques, the project will develop solutions for the development of the marine and freshwater bioeconomy in Europe, using species from lower trophic levels.
“The IMPRESS project represents an unprecedented opportunity to promote sustainable practices and value creation in the marine and freshwater sectors, while addressing pressing environmental and social challenges,” says project coordinator Professor Brijesh Tiwari.
NMFRI is leading the first work package, which includes surveys and social laboratories, analyses of supply chain trends and educational campaigns. In addition, our institute’s staff will collaborate in environmental impact assessment analyses, prototype product development and supply chain monitoring.
