National Marine Fisheries Research Institute joins the National Center for Baltic Research Consortium

NMFRI as a member of the National Center for Baltic Research

On 30.11.2017, on board “Oceanograf II” vessel, Dr. Emil Kuzebski, Director of the National Marine Fisheries Research Institute signed an agreement under which the Institute became a member of the National Center for Baltic Research Consortium (NCBR). Under the leadership of the University of Gdańsk, the consortium comprises: the University of Szczecin, Polish Naval Academy, Maritime Institute in Gdańsk, and the City of Gdynia supporting the initiative. In addition to the NMFRI, the Institute of Hydroengineering PAS, Gdynia Maritime University, Gdańsk University of Technology, Institute of Oceanology PAS, and the Medical University of Gdańsk also joined the consortium.

The mission of the NCBR is to integrate the scientific community, including the oceanographic one, connected with the interdisciplinary research on the Baltic Sea. Its aim is to consolidate and enhance the research, scientific, organizational and financial potential for conducting large scientific projects in the Baltic Sea region, and to reach a world-class level in these areas of activity.

The National Center for Baltic Research has been added to the Polish Road Map of Research Infrastructure, which gives it the opportunity to apply for projects from the 4.2 Smart Development Operational Program, the largest national program in the EU financing research, development and innovation. The main objective of SDOP 4.2 is to increase the innovativeness of the Polish economy, leading to the increase of the potential to conduct high-quality scientific research in Poland.
