In November 2017 the thermomodernization of the National Marine Fisheries Research Institute building in Świnoujście was completed. The NMFRI Research Station in Świnoujście has been in operation since 1952. Here the research on fisheries resources and hydrobiological studies of the Szczecin Lagoon and the Pomeranian Bay is conducted.
The implementation of the project was possible thanks to co-financing under the Operational Program Infrastructure and Environment 2014-2020, Priority Axis I – Decarbonizing the Economy, Sub-measure 1.3.1 – Support for energy efficiency in public buildings in order to implement project POIS.01.03.01-00-0026/16 entitled: “Complex energy modernization of the National Marine Fisheries Research Institute Research Station building in Świnoujście, Plac Słowiański 11 Street”.
Due to the architectural protection of the building, which was part of the urban layout of the central part of the town in the 20s of the 18th century, the realized investment was carried out with great care for the exterior appearance of the building. Hence, in order to obtain the desired appearance of the façade, the window divisions were reconstructed, the corner of the building with the bas-relief was restored and the two mascarons were returned to the front façade. To insulate the front wall of the building in Armii Krajowej i Plac Słowiański Streets, specialized and modern solutions were used.
The main aim of the project was to improve energy efficiency. In addition, the rising energy costs triggered the start of the investment. The goal was accomplished by insulation of the entire façade of the building and the roof, the replacement of window and door woodwork and the connection of the facility to the municipal heating network. The measures taken will certainly contribute to the reduction of heat consumption and, which is very important for a resort town, to the improvement of air quality.
